How TrueCost Works

Each result combines a purchase price with the running costs that apply to the product and usage you choose.

The basic calculation

Estimated ownership cost = purchase price + included consumables + included maintenance and other selected costs. The calculator applies your usage over the period you select. Cost per page or cup divides the relevant total by the number of pages or cups in that scenario where the calculation is defined.

Printer costs

Printer estimates account for the purchase price and the ink or toner needed for the pages you enter. Included starter supplies are credited before replacement supplies. Where applicable, the calculator can include a supported maintenance component. Paper and electricity are optional and off by default. Published yields are used at 100% unless the calculator explicitly lets you change the yield assumption.

Coffee costs

Coffee estimates use the machine purchase price, your coffee use and the supported coffee and maintenance inputs for the selected machine. Milk cost is optional and off by default; include it for every selected machine using the calculator control. Electricity remains excluded. The product choice and visible assumptions determine which costs are included.

How to use a result

Check the purchase price, usage, ownership period, consumable quantities and prices. Results are estimates for that scenario, not a guarantee of your future spending. Missing purchase prices prevent a complete ownership total. Rounding is applied to displayed GBP amounts to two decimal places.

Evidence and changes

Product details and prices can change. Where the calculator shows sources or verification dates, use those details to judge the inputs and report something that needs correction through Contact.
